Deputies Catch Burglar in the Act

Kudos to Sarasota County Sheriff's Office deputies who caught a burglar in the act last night. Just before 11 p.m., deputies responded to The Salvation Army store on 17th Street in Sarasota and found 39-year-old Elijah Smith hiding inside. Smith had broken a window and was attempting to steal money from cash registers. Smith was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Larceny and is currently in the Sarasota County Jail.
