Walking Under the Influence?
You probably haven't heard a big push to prevent drunk walking like you have drunk driving, but the federal government is speaking out in an effort to reduce pedestrian deaths and people who walk under the influence. Data released Monday shows more than a third of the pedestrians killed in 2011 had blood alcohol levels above the legal limit for driving. As this Associated Press article explains, alcohol can impair a pedestrians' judgment and lead them to make bad decisions, like crossing a road in the wrong place, crossing against the light or just stumbling into oncoming traffic. Safety advocates are also concerned about distracted walking, such as texting or talking, so be sure to heed the warnings!
